Abstract

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the factors affecting the interpersonal relationship competency among nursing students who have experienced COVID-19.

Methods: The participants in this study were 160 nursing students in South Korea. Data was collected from July 11 to July 18, 2023 using an online questionnaire. The questionnaire included general characteristics, type of characteristics, social self-efficacy, appearance satisfaction, depression, and interpersonal relationship competency. The results were analyzed with SPSS/Win 25.0 program using descriptive analysis, t-test, ANOVA, Scheffe test, Pearson¡¯s correlation coefficients, and multiple regression analysis.

Results: The interpersonal relationship competency was significantly correlated with experience of dating relationship, social self-efficacy, depression. Factors that affect the interpersonal relationship competency were experience of dating relationship (¥â=.15, p=.006), social self-efficacy (¥â=.31, p<.001), depression (¥â=-.48, p<.001). Depression had the greatest influence on the interpersonal relationship competency. The explanatory power of model was 57.0% (F=24.54, p<.001).
Conclusion: The results of this study indicate that it is necessary to identify the level of interpersonal relationship competency and implement various curricular and extracurricular programs for enhancing interpersonal relationship competency among nursing students.
